How to Search for Open Positions Using Indeed.com

Indeed.com collects job postings from nearly all the common job posting websites and many other sites, and allows visitors to create specific searches.

  1. Go to http://www.indeed.com/
  2. You will notice a box “Find Jobs”
  3. Underneath the box, you will see “advanced job search” in very small letters.
  4. Click on “advanced job search.”
  5. Under Find Jobs:
    1. Enter any word that must be included in the posting next to “With at least one of these words”
    2. Enter any word that must not be in the posting next to “With none of these words.” (For example, to screen out healthcare jobs, enter “patient” and “hospital”)
    3. Enter any word that must be in the posting title next to “With these words in the title.” (For example, to find jobs titled safety or risk or environmental, enter “safety or risk or environmental”)
  6. Under What and Where:
    1. Next to “Location” Enter the Mile Range and Zip Code desired
    2. Next to “Age” make a selection. Recommendation is to start with “within 7 days”
  7. Click on the Find Jobs box.
  8. Take a look at the postings.
  9. After reviewing the postings, you can modify your search.
  10. After reviewing the postings, you may decide to establish an e-mail update of your search settings.
  11. You can create specific advanced job searches and establish e-mail updates.
